In the heart of Antwerp, near the busy Hoogstraat, it is lovely to stay in the Greek Taverne which is part of the Greek House. As soon as you step through the large gate, you find yourself in one of the most peaceful inner gardens of 't Stad. Don't expect set tables, professional service and standard menus, but discover the simple and very tasty, typical Greek dishes: excellent grilled sardines and steaks, spicy sausages and prawns, freshly prepared salads with feta cheese, peppers and olives,... All this at very democratic prices. On the wine list you will find some Greek wines including retsina which has a typical resinous taste and is served very fresh. Be sure to try the ancient national drink made of grapes, star anise and all kinds of herbs: ouzo. Also everyone who works here has Greek roots which makes you feel like being on holiday. You can also learn New Greek, register for discussion groups or take Greek dancing lessons. In short, it is wonderful to relax in a thoroughly Mediterranean atmosphere!
